Desk Reporter: Three Al-Badrs men from Jamalpur district have been awarded death penalty while five have been jailed unto death for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
The death penalty convicts are Aftab Hossain, Abdul Mannan and Abdul Bari. Who have been jailed unto death are Shamsul Haque, Yousuf Ali, Sharif Ahmed, Md Harun and Abul Kashem.
Two of the convicted Yousuf and Shamsul were taken to the tribunal for verdict delivery. Remaining six of the accused are on the run.
The tribunal began reading out summary of the 289-page verdict from 10:42am.
The convicted faced five charges including murder, abduction, torture, confinement and arson committed between April 22 and December 11 in 1971.
According to the investigation agency of the war crimes tribunal, Al-Badr, an auxiliary force of the Pakistani occupation army, first came to existence in Jamalpur and Sherpur.EditorDesk | Published On:July 18, 2016
