Senior Awami League leader Suranjit Sengupta has held what he described as the BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s ‘perverted politics’ responsible for the party’s debacle in the Dec 30 municipal polls.
Speaking at a discussion on Friday, he said, “The BNP faced the municipal poll debacle due to Khaleda Zia’s perverted, heedless, and wrong politics.”
Sengupta, a member of the Awami League Advisory Council, said the next union council election would also be held with party symbols and “will be fair and neutral too”.
He urged the BNP chief to return to the path of democracy and tolerance in the country’s interest.
BNP mayoral aspirants won in only 22 of the 227 municipalities, whose results have been unofficially declared so far, while ruling Awami League has won in 177.
